Our origins
myVal began with a flood.
When the water receded, our founder Dan discovered that a rug he cared deeply about had been destroyed. His policy was active. The premiums had been paid. Yet a sublimit meant most of its value could not be recovered.
There were no proper photos taken before the damage, only an image captured afterwards when it was already ruined. What should have been straightforward became hours of frustration trying to find a replacement and emotional strain at an already difficult time.
Was it the insurer’s fault? No.
But the experience raised a larger question. What about people who lose everything in a fire or a theft? When nothing is left to photograph or reference, how do you prove what existed?
The real issue was not the policy. It was that nothing had been clearly recorded beforehand.

Our Evolution
That experience raised a simple question. How often does this happen?
When Dan began speaking to others, a pattern emerged. Insurers often saw situations like this as isolated. Customers disagreed. Many spoke about changing insurers after a claim, feeling disappointed not by the outcome alone, but by how unprepared they felt.
Almost everyone has an insurance story. A story about missing records. About not knowing the correct value of something.
About discovering too late that an item was not covered the way they believed.
myVal was built around this gap.
The hardest part of a claim is rarely the payment itself. It is trying to recreate what existed before the loss. Rebuilding that history can feel almost as traumatic as the event.
