myVal™ Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how myVal collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our platform.
1. What we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Account details (name, email address, phone number).
- Age and preferred gender.
- Household address.
- Item data (photos, descriptions, valuations).
- Location data (if permission is granted).
- Usage information (device type, session data, IP address).
2. How We Use Your Data
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the platform.
- Deliver insurance alignment insights and estimates.
- Improve our services.
- Communicate with you about updates, features, and your account.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We will not use your personal information for any secondary purpose without your consent, unless permitted under the Privacy Act.
3. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. However, we may use or license aggregated, de-identified data (which cannot reasonably identify you) for:
- Analytics
- Research
- Product development
- Commercial partnerships
These datasets are stripped of personal identifiers and used to understand usage trends or improve service functionality. No individual user will ever be identifiable from these datasets.
We may share data with:
- Insurers, if you opt to link your account.
- Valuation or analytics providers, to support service functionality.
- Regulators, where required by law.
4. Data Security and the 5Val Framework
myVal™ protects your data using its dedicated 5Val framework, based on the Australian Government’s Five Safes model:
- Safe Settings: Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256), hosted on secure, Australian-based infrastructure.
- Safe People: Access is restricted to authorised personnel with privacy training and background checks.
- Safe Projects: All uses of data are limited to your requested services and are anonymised where possible.
- Safe Data: Identifying information is separated from item records to reduce risk.
- Safe Outputs: You control exports and disclosures with built-in privacy tools.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the OAIC in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data at any time via your account.
- Correct inaccuracies in your data.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.
If you withdraw consent for marketing, we will maintain a record of your opt-out and ensure you no longer receive such communications.
Accuracy: You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of uploaded information. Inaccurate or incomplete uploads may negatively affect insurance outcomes (e.g., claims may be rejected). Guidance is available in-app to help you document items correctly.
If information you have shared with third parties (e.g., insurers) is later corrected, myVal™ will take reasonable steps to notify them if you request.
6. Data Retention & Destruction
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide our services or as required by law.
- When you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed from active systems.
- Secure deletion methods are applied to prevent recovery of personal data.
If we receive unsolicited personal information that we are not permitted to collect under the Privacy Act, we will destroy or de-identify it as soon as practicable, unless required by law to retain.
7. International Data Transfers
myVal™ does not currently transfer personal information outside Australia.
If this changes, we will:
- Take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients comply with the APPs, or
- Obtain your informed consent before transfer.
8. Cookies and Analytics
We may use cookies and other tracking technologies to:
- Understand how users interact with the app.
- Improve platform performance and user experience.
